About the RoleAn opportunity exists for an experienced Payroll Officer to join our Finance Team. Reporting to the Senior Payroll & Accounts Officer, this role is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of weekly payrolls, payroll compliance obligations and employee payroll support.
The successful candidate will have strong payroll administration experience, excellent attention to detail and demonstrated experience interpreting and applying the SCHADS Award.
This is a hands-on role requiring the ability to manage multiple payroll-related responsibilities while maintaining compliance with legislative and organisational requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesProcess weekly payroll for more than 400 employees.
Process weekly payroll for offshore resources.
Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time in accordance with employment contracts, organisational policies and legislative requirements.
Maintain employee payroll records and master data.
Process new starters, terminations, pay rate changes and payroll adjustments.
Ensure all payroll transactions are appropriately authorised and documented.
Interpret and apply the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award.
Review employee classifications and pay rates.
Process and validate allowances, penalties, overtime, sleepovers, broken shifts and other award-based entitlements.
Assist with payroll compliance reviews and audits.
Monitor changes to legislation and award provisions impacting payroll operations.
Prepare and process weekly superannuation lodgements.
Prepare and process weekly PAYG withholding reporting and payments.
Prepare and lodge monthly payroll tax returns.
Prepare and lodge quarterly long service leave returns.
Assist with end-of-year payroll reconciliations and reporting requirements.
Ensure all statutory obligations are met within required timeframes.
Respond to payroll-related enquiries from employees and managers.
Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and issues.
Provide support regarding pay, leave, superannuation, taxation and award interpretation matters.
Deliver high-quality customer service while maintaining confidentiality.
Perform payroll reconciliations and identify discrepancies.
Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts.
Assist with payroll reporting and analysis.
Support month-end and year-end payroll activities.
Maintain accurate payroll documentation and audit trails.
Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and controls.
Assist with payroll system enhancements and upgrades.
Support process documentation and standardisation initiatives.
Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and compliance.
Minimum 2–3 years' experience in a Payroll Officer or Payroll Administrator role.
Experience processing high-volume payrolls.
Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying the SCHADS Award.
Strong understanding of payroll legislation and Fair Work requirements.
Sound knowledge of PAYG withholding, superannuation, payroll tax and leave entitlements.
Experience managing payroll compliance obligations and statutory reporting.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Ability to prioritise workload and meet strict deadlines.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
Experience using Employment Hero Payroll.
Experience using Xero.
Experience processing payroll for offshore employees or contractors.
