Step into a newly established leadership position within one of Australia’s largest recreation organisations, taking ownership of a high‑volume, multi‑entity payroll function supporting more than 11,000 employees.

This role acts as a 2IC to the Payroll Manager - providing day‑to‑day direction and people leadership while the organisation undertakes a major Dayforce implementation and continues to expand through acquisition.

The Role

Key responsibilities may include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 10 Payroll Officers, serving as the primary people leader for daily operations

  • Manage your own end‑to‑end payroll portfolio

  • Oversee complex, multi‑entity pay cycles across weekly and fortnightly runs, covering a wide range of modern awards

  • Contribute to the Dayforce implementation and support the transition to steady‑state operations

  • Assist with integrating newly acquired businesses into the payroll environment

  • Enable the Payroll Manager to focus on strategic initiatives, compliance, systems, and project delivery

The Person

The ideal candidate will join bringing to the table:

  • Prior experience having used Dayforce - essential

  • Demonstrated experience managing payroll across multi‑entity, multi‑award environments with significant volume and complexity

  • Proven leadership capability — you’ve led payroll officers and know how to build capability and performance

  • A commitment to staying and making a meaningful impact

This is a permanent opportunity best suited to candidates in Melbourne's eastern suburbs looking for something close to home / away from the city. Genuine hybrid working - with 1-2 days a week onsite expected and the remainder of time working from home.
