The opportunity

We are looking for enthusiastic and community minded individuals to join our Customer Service Team as Casual Customer Service Officers. As the first point of contact for the Hobsons Bay community, you will play a key role in providing friendly, professional, and efficient service to residents and visitors. You’ll be part of a supportive team that values adaptability, collaboration, and customer focus. This dynamic role offers the opportunity to work across various locations, including the Civic Centre Contact Centre, Hobsons Bay Libraries and Community Hubs. 

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing customer service triage across the whole of Council, connecting residents with the right information and services 
  • Responding to phones, emails, webchats, and face-to-face enquiries in a professional and timely manner 
  • Using the CRM system to manage the full case life cycle and triage requests into the correct departments 
  • Contributing to continuous improvements in customer experience for the Hobsons Bay community 
  • Supporting library operations, including shelving, tidying, and promoting collections 
  • Assisting customers with digital tools and troubleshooting general IT issues 
  • Maintaining the presentation of customer areas and community spaces 
  • Performing routine administrative tasks, as well as cash handling and EFTPOS payments

What you'll need to succeed

  • Exceptional customer service skills with confidence in face-to-face, phone, and online engagement 
  • A community-focused mindset with a passion for supporting people from diverse backgrounds 
  • Adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment 
  • Flexibility to work across multiple sites, including Civic Centre, Libraries, and Community Hubs 
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with colleagues across Council 
  • Digital literacy and willingness to learn new systems and technologies

Pre-Employment Requirements 

Progressed candidates will be required to complete a National Police Record Check & a Working With Children Check (WWCC).

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa with full unrestricted working rights. Work eligibility will be checked as part of the recruitment process.
