Family Lawyer (3+ PQE)

The Family Lawyer is seeking a capable and motivated Family Lawyer to join our established specialist family law practice.

This is an opportunity to work with a team of passionate individuals, including Betty, the Black Labrador and Chief Happiness Officer, who is responsible for team morale, enthusiastic greetings and reminding everyone to step away from their desks occasionally.

This is a firm that is genuinely committed to high-quality legal work, professional development, career progression and sustainable practice. The role is suited to a technically strong family lawyer who is ready to take ownership of files, provide practical and strategic advice, support junior lawyers, and contribute to the ongoing development of the firm.

About The Family Lawyer

The Family Lawyer is a boutique family law firm practising in all areas of family law, including parenting matters, property settlements, family violence, child support, divorce, Binding Financial Agreements and related matters.

Our clients come to us during difficult and often highly stressful periods in their lives. We take that responsibility seriously. We have a strong focus on high-quality legal work, clear communication, client service and professional accountability. We also value a respectful, supportive and accountable team culture where good work is recognised, outcomes are celebrated, standards are clear, and people are genuinely supported.

We are looking for someone who can combine technical skill with sound judgement, practical advice and strong client management, and who finds real meaning in guiding clients through to a better outcome.

What We Offer

·       Take your birthday off (free annual leave day)

·       Genuine flexibility, including work-from-home arrangements, to support real work-life balance.

·       A dedicated wellbeing program, including a wellbeing space and access to an open balcony for natural light and relaxed lunch breaks.

·       Career progression, professional development and Specialist Accreditation

·       A supportive workplace

·       Leadership and supervision opportunities.

·       Established systems, precedents and workflows.

·       Support for professional development and Specialist Accreditation.

·       A respectful and fun team culture

About the Role

You will manage your own family law matters from intake through to resolution, including negotiated settlements, mediations, interim hearings, litigation and finalisation of agreements and orders.

You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior lawyers, assist with file strategy, contribute to the improvement of precedents and workflows, and play an active role in the continued growth of the firm.

About You

You will ideally have:

·       At least 3 years PAE in family law.

·       Strong technical knowledge of family law practice and procedure.

·       Experience managing your own family law files.

·       Experience mentoring or supporting junior lawyers.

·       Confidence dealing with clients in complex, sensitive or high-conflict matters.

·       Experience appearing in family law court events and briefing counsel where appropriate.

·       Strong drafting, legal research and written communication skills.

·       Strong organisational skills and the ability to progress matters efficiently.

·       Sound judgement in relation to risk, strategy, costs and client communication.

·       A collaborative approach to working with lawyers, legal assistants and support staff.

Remuneration

The successful applicant will receive competitive remuneration in accordance with their qualifications and experience.
