The Construction Estimator plays a key role in supporting the successful delivery of construction projects by preparing accurate cost estimates, analysing project requirements, and assisting with tender submissions. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure projects are accurately priced and commercially viable. This role is ideal for a construction professional with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a sound understanding of construction methods, materials, and project costing.

Task & responsibilities

  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation to assess project requirements and prepare detailed cost estimates.
  • Analyse labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs to determine overall project budgets and feasibility.
  • Conduct site inspections to evaluate project conditions and gather information relevant to cost planning and estimation.
  • Source pricing from suppliers and subcontractors and negotiate competitive rates to achieve cost-effective project outcomes.
  • Liaise with architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, project managers, and contractors to clarify project scope and technical requirements.
  • Develop and prepare comprehensive cost plans, estimates, and tender submissions for residential and commercial construction projects.
  • Present cost analyses and budget recommendations to management and stakeholders, identifying opportunities for cost savings and value engineering.
  • Assist in the preparation, negotiation, and finalisation of project tenders and contract pricing.
  • Monitor market trends, material costs, and industry developments to ensure estimates remain accurate and competitive.
  • Maintain estimation records, pricing databases, and project documentation to support future project planning and reporting.

Qualification & experience

  • A relevant qualification in Construction Management, Building and Construction, Quantity Surveying, Civil Construction, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in construction estimating, cost planning, quantity surveying, or a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, contracts, and industry standards.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, plans, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction estimation software.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work within deadlines.
