Maroondah City Council has an exciting opportunity for a Strategic Environment Officer to join our Strategic Planning and Sustainability team.

We are seeking an enthusiastic professional who is passionate about protecting and enhancing the natural environment. The successful candidate will bring experience in environmental and biodiversity planning and/or conservation management, along with a strong commitment to delivering positive environmental outcomes for our community.

About the Role

In this role, you will work collaboratively across Council and with the broader community to plan and implement initiatives that protect and enhance biodiversity across the municipality.

This position requires a proactive individual who excels at building and maintaining relationships, and who is comfortable engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of Council’s environmental and biodiversity strategies and action plans
  • Build strong partnerships across Council teams, community groups, and external organisations
  • Facilitate and support community engagement initiatives, including citizen science programs and events
  • Provide expert environmental advice to internal stakeholders, community members, and partner organisations
  • Support the delivery of on-ground conservation and biodiversity initiatives in collaboration with Council’s Operations team

About You

You will be a collaborative and solutions-focused professional with:

  • Experience in environmental planning, biodiversity conservation, or natural resource management
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to translate strategic objectives into practical actions
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience working across multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in on-ground bushland or conservation management is highly regarded.

Additional Information

This role works closely with Council’s Operations team to implement strategy outcomes. To achieve this, the role will work from Council’s Operations Centre in Croydon from time to time.
