We're seeking experienced and people-focused APS6 level Support Needs Assessors to join a national, high-impact program within a federal government agency. These roles are available across Australia (including Geelong and Melbourne VIC), with flexible hybrid working arrangements.

This is a full-time opportunity suited to allied health and clinical professionals who are confident conducting assessments, analysing evidence, and producing clear, defensible reports in a structured environment.

As a Support Needs Assessor, you'll play a critical role in delivering high-quality, person-centred assessments that inform consistent and transparent outcomes for participants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct structured and semi-structured interviews with participants and their supports
  • Gather, analyse, and interpret clinical and functional information
  • Prepare clear, evidence-based assessment reports to support planning decisions
  • Apply policy, frameworks, and guidelines consistently in all assessment work
  • Communicate respectfully with participants, families, and stakeholders
  • Identify and escalate complex or high-risk matters appropriately
  • Manage a high-volume caseload in a fast-paced environment
  • Contribute to a collaborative, quality-driven team culture

Mandatory Qualifications

Candidates must hold:

  • A recognised tertiary qualification in allied health, such as:
    • Occupational Therapy
    • Physiotherapy
    • Speech Pathology
    • Social Work
    • Dietetics
    • Exercise Physiology
    • Rehabilitation Counselling
    • Counselling
    • Psychotherapy

OR

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant health discipline, such as:
    • Registered Nurse (RN)
    • Enrolled Nurse (EN)
    • Clinicians with an Education degree
    • NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner

What We're Looking For

  • Experience conducting support needs assessments or similar person-centred assessments
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and synthesise evidence
  • Excellent written communication, particularly report writing
  • Confident interviewing and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to apply policy and structured frameworks consistently
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities

Desirable Experience

  • Experience administering support needs assessments or similar frameworks
  • Strong commitment to person-centred and strengths-based approaches
  • Experience or accreditation with the I-CAN Support Needs Assessment Tool (highly regarded but not essential)
