Endeavour Hills Specialist School provides highly individualized programs of learning for students aged 5 to 18 with disability and high needs, including diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder with a language disorder and/or an intellectual disability. The school aims to maximise life opportunities by offering a comprehensive learning program and access to support networks, while developing skills, knowledge and values that prepare students for further learning and active participation in their community.
Role
An education support class position at this range will perform tasks in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice and school policy, under supervision and direction. The role may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program, and supports the educational services provided to students without performing duties of a teacher.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide routine support for teachers, including assisting with planning of student routines.
- Support communication between teachers and parents.
- Communicate with teachers on routine matters related to students and other responsibilities.
- Provide basic physical care and wellbeing support for students such as toileting, meals, and lifting.
- Communicate with students to support comprehension of basic tasks and information.
- Address immediate behavioural presentations relating to specific students within a classroom setting aligned to school policy and procedure.
- Provide basic support and supervision for individuals or groups of up to 4 students within a classroom setting.
- Support teachers in the coordination of educational programs independently or under minimal supervision, including rostering, organising the work of a team of aides, and liaising with external support service providers.
- Provide medical intervention support to students under specific conditions with appropriate training and guidance.
- Provide specialised communication support for students and teachers in areas such as AUSLAN and braille.
- Work with students with moderate to high needs.
- Undertake a range of tasks and functions to provide support and/or attendant care.
- Effectively implement Manual Handling and Health Care Plans for individual students.
