About the program

Justice Programs

Jesuit Social Services’ Justice Programs provide holistic support service for adults and young people involved in the justice system or who are exiting prisons and/or youth justice centres. Our programs target those who are assessed as high risk/need, with limited social and family networks, limited accommodation and post release support options and experiencing multiple and complex health problems. Staff deliver quality programs in a manner that reflects the social justice principles of participation, equity, access and respect. Services include intensive outreach support, case management, supported accommodation, drug and alcohol counselling, recreation programs and employment/training programs. Our adult and youth justice work contributes to regional and state-wide advisory forums and networks and assists in a more comprehensive approach to justice through partnerships with government agencies and other service providers, as well as to legislation, policy development and advocacy.

Enhanced Bail Community Support Service

The Victorian Government has established a two-year, metropolitan-based trial to enhance monitoring and support for young people on bail. The Enhanced Bail Supervision and Support (EBSS) trial will allow for up to 50 young people at any one time to be subject to electronic monitoring (EM) bail conditions and provide additional support to high-risk young people via more intensive case management, bail compliance oversight and support to high-risk young people with complex needs.

The Enhanced Bail Community Support Service will provide non-statutory support to young people subject to EBSS and provide support and meaningful, structured activity to address any needs and support the young person’s compliance with the order.

About the role

We are seeking tertiary qualified, experienced and dedicated Afterhours Intensive Support Workers for our Enhanced Bail Community Support Service (EBCS) team. These roles will work as part of an integrated team providing intensive support to young people subject to Enhanced Bail (or other Youth Justice involved young people if there are insufficient Enhanced Bail referrals) provide focused and practical support for young people and their families, including some after-hours work. This will include providing intensive support after-hours to young people and their families and ensuring young people are linked to family, community and culture, have pathways to economic participation and have access to a range of supports and services in relation to health, housing and developmental needs.

Salary $88,000 to $92,000 depending on skills and experience

Candidate Requirements

These roles will suit candidates with the following skills and experience:

1. Tertiary qualification/s and/or relevant experience in field
2. Demonstrated skills and experience in working effectively with young people experiencing substance misuse, homelessness, mental health concerns, violent or aggressive behaviours and other complex problems that may result in offending behaviour
3. Experience in, and/or knowledge of, the Youth Justice and Adult Justice system, relevant legislation, processes and procedures and the ability to establish, and maintain positive and productive working arrangements with a range of stakeholders, both Government and non-Government
4. A practice framework that is evidence based, along with a sound knowledge of service responses and interventions that impact positively on a young person’s development
5. Capacity to work flexible hours, which will include after-hours and weekends, in accordance with the hours of operation of the service (currently 7.00 am to 10.30 p.m.) and capacity to work across Metropolitan Melbourne.
