Our client, Happy Hubbub, is a boutique childcare service licensed for a small number of children, enabling a highly personalised and child-focused learning environment located in Preston, Victoria, with an emphasis on indoor/outdoor exploration, play-based learning and close engagement with families. The business is seeking an Early Childhood Teacher to join their team.

The Early Childhood Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating structured early learning and kindergarten programs for children aged three to five (3-5) years within a boutique long day care setting. The role is central to the delivery of the centre’s integrated funded kindergarten program, providing high-quality educational outcomes aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and Victorian kindergarten guidelines. The Early Childhood Teacher provides pedagogical leadership within the centre, ensuring that educational programs are developmentally appropriate, compliant with regulatory standards, and tailored to each child’s learning needs.

The annual salary for the Early Childhood Teacher is $76,600 to $77,000 plus superannuation.

Key Responsibilities:

Educational Program Design and Delivery

  • Develop, implement and evaluate structured kindergarten and early learning programs aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and National Quality Standard (NQS).

  • Plan curriculum that supports cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of children aged three to five (3-5) years.

  • Design and deliver play-based and inquiry-based learning experiences, incorporating indoor and outdoor environments reflective of the centre's philosophy.

  • Facilitate intentional teaching experiences to support early literacy, numeracy and school readiness outcomes.

  • Adapt learning programs to accommodate individual developmental needs, cultural backgrounds, and learning styles.

Child development assessment and documentation

  • Observe, assess, and document children's development, learning progress and behaviour using recognised early childhood frameworks.

  • Maintain detailed learning records, developmental assessments, and portfolios for each child.

  • Identify developmental delays or additional needs and implement targeted learning strategies or referrals where appropriate.

  • Use assessment outcomes to inform curriculum planning and continuous improvement of educational programs.

Pedagogical Leadership and Compliance

  • Provide educational leadership within the service, guiding Educators in implementing curriculum and best practices.

  • Ensure compliance with the National Quality Framework (NQF), EYLF, and relevant state regulatory requirements.

  • Contribute to quality improvement planning, audits, and assessment processes.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to maintain and exceed quality standards.

Family and Community Engagement

  • Build strong partnerships with families, maintaining open communication regarding children's development and learning outcomes.

  • Engage with parents who are often present on-site, providing real-time feedback and collaborative support.

  • Facilitate parent-teacher discussions, transition planning and school readiness guidance.

  • Promote inclusive practices and community engagement aligned with the centre's collaborative model.

Learning Environment and Program Integration

  • Design and maintain stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environments that encourage exploration and independent learning.

  • Integrate natural materials, play-based learning zones, and flexible learning spaces consistent with the centre's philosophy.

  • Support a child-led approach where children can choose learning environments and activities.

Mentoring and Team Collaboration

  • Mentor Certificate III and Diploma-qualified Educators in curriculum delivery and child development practices.

  • Collaborate with the broader team to ensure consistency in educational delivery and care practices.

  • Support staff training and development aligned with regulatory and quality standards.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Must have at least one to two (1-2) years of experience in a similar setting.

  • Should hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Early Childhood Education (or equivalent recognised qualification), or at least a Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood.

  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the relevant state authority (e.g. VIT where applicable).

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering kindergarten or early childhood education programs.

Strong knowledge of:

  • Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF)

  • National Quality Framework (NQF) and National Quality Standard (NQS).

  • Child development theories and play-based learning methodologies.

  • Strong pedagogical and curriculum development skills.

  • Ability to lead educational programs within a small, high-engagement environment

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with families.

  • High level of organisation and documentation capability.

  • Commitment to child-centred and inclusive education practices.
