Mechanical Design Engineer (Automotive)

  • Full Time role, located at Hallam – South East

  • Nearly 2 weeks closure over Christmas/NY period

Autonomously Lead concept reviews and design complex plastic and metal components and assemblies, with consideration to plastic tooling and moulding processes, metal tooling / forming processes, provide advice on plastics and metal design requirements and product assembly fixturing with minimal or no guidance.

• Continuously & Autonomously Assist with the Mechanical Product Design Group work allocation process through planning meetings, this includes but not limited to:

  1. Lead the successful delivery of the planned work packages

  2. Lead Mechanical Product Design Group project status review meetings.

  3. Lead R&D Program Managers regarding Mechanical Product Design Group technical information.

• Autonomously ensure automotive standard product development and quality processes are adhered to including APQP, FMEA, PPAP and DVP&R requirements.

• Autonomously Lead & Drive Mechanical Product Design Group continuous improvement, raise & develop the Mechanical Product Design Group skill levels by:

  1. Providing Engineering Training / Tips & Tricks Sessions / technical reviews as required.

  2. Ensure the success of individual team members and their respective projects by assisting with tasks

• Good experience with FEA Software – Linear Static, Vibration & Thermal Analysis.

• Stronge capabilities with the company’s CAD & CAE software – Unigraphics NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, SimCenter/Nastran.

• Autonomously drive the Mechanical Product Design Group in engineering calculations, modelling, FEA and other technical analysis with generation of associated reporting.

• Autonomously drive Mechanical Product Design Group projects to completion within time & budget.

• Autonomously lead material selection for mechanical products, this includes material correlation activities with Validation dept. to expand the company engineering material database & respond to customer technical queries.

• Autonomously lead & mentor the Mechanical Product Design Group in all aspects of 2D & 3D CAD software to design and release component and assembly drawings.

  1. Autonomously Lead verification of designs with Lumen FEA.

  2. Mechanical Project management & administration

  3. Autonomously Lead the coordination of Mechanical Product Design Group project tasks and assist with the scheduling of said tasks with local and remote group members.

  4. Actively disseminate project task information to the Mechanical Product Design Group members

  5. Actively mentor & train local / remote group members to elevate group skills and efficiency

• Lead local & remote group members by example and proactively forming strong bonds

• At Project completion, ensure all documentation is filed & disseminated, as per Lumen processes.

• Autonomously Manage the outsourcing of mechanical engineering work assigned to remote staff, contractors.

• Autonomously develop personal skill levels in communication and team leadership as required
