About our Vet Clinic

We are a large Clinic with a rotating staff of approximately 40 nurses and 24 vets, which includes veterinarians with advanced education in internal medicine, orthopaedics, shelter medicine, soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology, pocket pets and emergency and critical care. Accompanying this inspiring group is a varied skill set of nurses who encourage, support, and inspire each other to continually improve. 

Our facility incorporates five operating theatres, eight consulting rooms, two shelter hospital wards, two private patient hospital wards, a cat specific, isolation ward, and a full digital imaging suite. 

About the role

The Trainee Vet Nurse is an entry-level nurse position responsible for the day-to-day care of animals in veterinary clinics operated by RSPCA Victoria, contributing to the achievement of the best possible welfare outcome for every animal in our care. This role is a part time role, that consists of 64 hours per fortnight working on a 4-week rotating roster.

This role will see you

• Supporting daily animal care and husbandry, whilst assisting veterinarians with medication, treatments, minor procedures, and anaesthesia.   
• Monitor and report animal health and behaviour concerns. 
• Deliver excellent customer service and educate the public on animal welfare and RSPCA services. 
• Foster a positive, inclusive team environment through effective communication and alignment with RSPCA values.

What we are looking for from you

• Experience in an animal care role is highly desirable, including basic knowledge of animal anatomy, behaviour, and disease recognition. 
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment, whilst showing great care and compassion to the animals in our care. 
• Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment. 
• The ability and commitment to work on a rotating roster, which includes some weekends and some public holidays. 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
• Strong problem solving and organisational skills.

Qualifications and other requirements

• Be currently studying or enrolled in Certificate IV or higher in Veterinary Nursing. 
• Completed a Certificate II or III in Animal Studies or equivalent  
• Evidence of current tetanus vaccination required. 
• Willingness to perform a National Police Check.
