Specialist surgical practice seeking experienced medical secretary 3-4 days per week depending on candidate

Role and Responsibilities

This position will suit an experienced person who is professional, discreet and is able to work independently and reliably. 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Co-ordination of front desk reception 

  • Consultation bookings 

  • Handling of patient enquiries 

  • Coordination and triaging of urgent cases

  • Direct liason with the Specialist Surgeon

  • Liasing with operating theatres and other hospital departments and health professionals

  • Medicare and health fund billing/claiming

  • Patient accounting and end of day reconciliations

  • Management of correspondence, medical reports and emails

  • Maintaining patient files and scanning

Qualifications & experience

The successful candidate would ideally demonstrate the following:

  • At least one year's experience in a similar role (ideally in surgical practice)

  • Excellent work ethic and takes pride in their work

  • Firm knowledge of medical terminology

  • Good computer skills and knowledge of Gentu a bonus  

  • Honesty, good organisational and communication skills, initiative, common sense and attention to detail is essential

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise and work independently

  • Professional demeanour with patients and colleagues at all times

  • Insight into confidentiality and sensitivity associated with time sensitive situations in a specialist medical environment

  • Covering leave for other staff members

Training provided by the current Practice Manager
