The oppourtunity

This role suits an academic level B or C who is ready to teach independently, coordinate units, support student development, supervise student research and contribute to a growing psychology education provider with an applied research agenda. For appointment at Senior Lecturer level, the role suits a senior academic who can lead teaching practice, improve curriculum and assessment, supervise research, strengthen ISN-aligned research activity and contribute to academic governance.

ISN is particularly interested in candidates with emerging, developing or established research strength aligned to social and/or clinical neuroscience, clinical psychology, personality science and wellbeing, psychological assessment and measurement, human-centred AI, neurofeedback, cognition, affective neuroscience, AI-enabled simulation, neurotechnology, and translational mental health or human performance research.

What you will do

Teach independently, coordinate units and contribute to curriculum, assessment, scholarship, research supervision and student learning. For appointment at Level C, you will also lead teaching practice, curriculum innovation, program coordination, research supervision, ISN-aligned research activity and academic quality improvement.

  • Teach undergraduate and/or postgraduate psychology subjects.

  • Contribute to curriculum design, assessment quality, moderation and assurance of learning.

  • Supervise honours, masters, doctoral and/or higher degree research projects as appropriate to expertise, workload and governance requirements and, where relevant, placement or professional practice learning within approved scope.

  • Develop, maintain or sustain an active research, scholarship or professional practice agenda commensurate with the level of appointment.

  • Contribute to ISN-aligned research, scholarship, external engagement or research translation activities, including social and/or clinical neuroscience, psychological assessment, neurofeedback, AI-enabled psychological science or related applied areas where relevant to expertise.

  • For appointment at Level C, contribute to research collaborations, publications, supervision, external engagement, research translation and grant or partnership development within areas aligned to ISN strengths.

  • Use AI tools ethically and transparently in teaching, research and administration and help students develop responsible AI literacy.

  • Contribute to culturally responsive practice, First Nations engagement and inclusive student learning.

  • Contribute to team-based academic delivery and mentor Level A or casual teaching staff where allocated.

  • For appointment at Level C, provide leadership to Level A and B academics and contribute significantly to institutional governance and program quality.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer with:

  • Doctoral qualification in psychology, neuroscience, clinical psychology or a related discipline, or equivalent professional standing and experience relevant to psychology education.

  • Demonstrated higher education teaching capability in psychology or a closely related discipline, including curriculum development, assessment quality and student supervision appropriate to the level of appointment.

  • Capacity to coordinate units, contribute to program quality, and support valid, reliable and inclusive assessment.

  • Scholarship, research outputs, research supervision, research translation or professional practice record appropriate to Academic Level B or C.

  • Research expertise or developing research interests aligned to ISN priorities, ideally including social and/or clinical neuroscience, clinical psychology, personality science and wellbeing, psychological assessment and measurement, human-centred AI, neurofeedback, AI-enabled psychological assessment, generative AI, simulation, neurotechnology or translational mental health.

  • Practical AI literacy and the capacity to model ethical, critical and transparent use of AI in teaching, research, assessment, supervision and administration.

  • Commitment to culturally responsive practice, First Nations engagement, equity, inclusion, student learning and professional psychology standards.

  • For appointment at Academic Level C, demonstrated capacity to lead curriculum innovation, program coordination, moderation, quality assurance, academic improvement and/or research activity.

  • AHPRA registration as a psychologist, Clinical Psychology or Neuro endorsement, PsyBA Board Approved Supervisor status are preferred where the role involves supervised professional practice, placement or clinical education.

AI is reshaping psychology practice, research and the academy. ISN Psychology expects academic staff to engage with AI thoughtfully, transparently and critically in teaching, research, assessment and administration. Staff are expected to understand AI limitations, academic integrity risks, research integrity considerations, privacy obligations and the importance of human academic judgement.

Location and employment

Appointments will be based in Melbourne

Full-time 1.0 FTE or part-time 0.8 FTE may be considered.

Classification: Academic Level B or Academic Level C under the Higher Education Industry - Academic Staff - Award 2020, subject to contract and classification confirmation.

Appointment is subject to satisfactory working rights, Working with Children Check and National Police Record Check.
