22 Yards is seeking a skilled and motivated full-time Chef to join its kitchen team in Craigieburn VIC. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking authentic Indian cuisine while maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation, hygiene, and kitchen operations. The role requires a hands-on Chef who can work efficiently in a busy commercial kitchen environment and contribute to smooth daily restaurant operations.

Task & responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a variety of Indian dishes including curries, tandoori items, breads, rice dishes, appetisers, and desserts. 
  • Plan menus and assist in developing new dishes in line with customer preferences and seasonal availability. 
  • Ensure consistency in food preparation, portion sizes, taste, and presentation standards. 
  • Monitor food quality during preparation and service periods. 
  • Supervise kitchen staff and coordinate kitchen activities during busy service periods. 
  • Train and guide junior kitchen staff in food preparation techniques and hygiene standards. 
  • Manage food stock, inventory levels, and kitchen supplies. 
  • Order food ingredients and kitchen supplies as required. 
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards, sanitation, and workplace health and safety regulations. 
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen equipment, storage areas, and workstations. 
  • Minimise food wastage and maintain cost control measures. 
  • Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure quality and safety standards are met. 
  • Work collaboratively with management and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth restaurant operations. 

Qualification & experience

  • Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience as a Chef.
  • Experience preparing authentic Indian cuisine.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to supervise and train kitchen staff.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required by restaurant operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high food quality standards.
