Populus Café, located in the heart of Berwick, Victoria, is a highly regarded and contemporary café renowned for its specialty coffee, creative all-day brunch menu, and exceptional dining experience. Popular among locals and visitors alike, the café offers a diverse selection of modern Australian breakfast and lunch dishes, fresh seasonal ingredients, and premium beverages in a vibrant and welcoming setting. With a strong reputation for quality, consistency, and customer service, Populus Café continues to attract a loyal customer base and maintain a busy daily trade. The café is currently seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Cook to join its dedicated kitchen team and assist in preparing high-quality meals, maintaining food safety standards, and supporting the smooth operation of the kitchen while contributing to the café’s ongoing success and reputation for culinary excellence.

  • Position: Cook

  • Salary: $80,000 plus Superannuation

  • Job Type: Permanent, Full Time, must be available to work on weekends and public holidays.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • At the beginning of each shift, inspect all ingredients to ensure they are fresh and of high quality.

  • Discard any substandard food items and log details for reordering.

  • Complete daily preparation tasks to ensure there are enough for the upcoming serving period.

  • Prepare meals for all courses.

  • Cook menu items according to recipes and procedures, adding the right seasonings before, during, and after cooking.

  • Determine the correct cooking times and temperatures, adjusting ovens and grills to ensure food is cooked perfectly.

  • Prepare and serve meals according to dietary requirements, making ingredient substitutions as needed.

  • Serve menu items in standard portions, ensuring an attractive presentation with garnishes and condiments.

  • Follow health, safety, and food-handling regulations.

Key Skills and Attributes:

  • Relevant qualifications with at least 1-year professional working experience as a Cook.

  • Holds a trade qualification of Certificate III in Cookery or higher.

  • Ability to focus in pressured environment and manage the team effectively.

  • Full working rights within Australia are mandatory.
