Role Description This is a part-time hybrid role for a Database Administrator based in Melbourne, VIC, with the flexibility to work both on-site and from home. The Database Administrator will manage and maintain databases to ensure high availability, performance, and security. Daily tasks include monitoring database health, performing backups and restores, applying patches and upgrades, and troubleshooting incidents. The role also involves designing and optimizing database structures, supporting data modeling activities, and collaborating with developers and business stakeholders on new and existing applications. The Database Administrator will document procedures, enforce data governance standards, and contribute to continuous improvement of database operations and automation.

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in Database Administration and practical experience managing production databases.
  • Proficiency in Database Design and Data Modeling to support scalable, reliable applications.
  • Hands‑on experience working with Databases (e.g., SQL‑based and/or NoSQL platforms) and related tools.
  • Well‑developed Analytical Skills for performance tuning, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery strategies, security best practices, and access control.
  • Experience with monitoring tools and performance optimization techniques.
  • Ability to document processes clearly and collaborate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in hybrid work environments and the ability to manage time and priorities independently.
