We're partnering with a leading Australian organisation undergoing significant cloud and platform evolution and are seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join their growing Platform & Data Engineering team.

This is an opportunity to work within a modern, cloud-first environment, supporting business-critical platforms while contributing to database modernisation, automation initiatives, cloud transformation projects, and operational excellence across a complex technology landscape.

You'll play a key role in ensuring the security, availability, performance and scalability of enterprise database environments spanning both AWS and hybrid infrastructure.

The Opportunity

As Database Administrator, you'll be responsible for the design, administration, optimisation and ongoing support of database platforms across Oracle, SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments.

Working closely with platform, engineering and application teams, you'll contribute to high-availability solutions, cloud migration initiatives, database automation, performance tuning and continuous improvement activities.

This role offers a strong blend of BAU operational ownership and strategic project work, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both technical depth and driving modernisation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement and support secure, scalable and high-performing database platforms

  • Manage Oracle, SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments across AWS and hybrid infrastructure

  • Administer AWS database services including RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL

  • Configure, patch, upgrade and maintain database environments

  • Implement and support high availability and disaster recovery solutions

  • Monitor database health, availability and performance, proactively resolving issues

  • Perform database performance tuning, query optimisation and capacity planning

  • Develop automation solutions to streamline database operations and maintenance

  • Create and maintain scripts using Python, Bash, PowerShell, PL/SQL or T-SQL

  • Support CI/CD and database deployment processes using modern DevOps practices

  • Participate in cloud migration, upgrade and transformation initiatives

  • Manage backup, recovery, patching and environment build activities

  • Conduct root cause analysis and incident resolution for complex database issues

  • Collaborate with engineering, application and data teams to support business-critical platforms

  • Maintain operational documentation, standards and runbooks

  • Contribute to continuous improvement, automation and platform modernisation initiatives

About You

You'll be a technically strong Database Administrator who enjoys solving complex problems, improving platform reliability and leveraging automation to enhance operational efficiency.

Required Experience
  • 3+ years' experience as a Database Administrator

  • Strong experience with Oracle, SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL

  • Hands-on experience supporting AWS database services including RDS and Aurora

  • Experience managing databases within AWS and hybrid environments

  • Strong understanding of high availability and disaster recovery solutions

  • Experience with database upgrades, migrations and environment builds

  • Advanced database performance tuning and optimisation skills

  • Scripting and automation experience using Python, Bash, PowerShell or similar technologies

  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale production environments

Highly Regarded
  • Exposure to database DevOps (DBOps) practices

  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Liquibase or similar deployment tooling

  • Exposure to modern data platforms and data engineering environments

  • Experience supporting cloud transformation or modernisation programs
