PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE

The Production Engineer plays a key role in maintaining production efficiency and equipment performance. You will work closely with Production, Quality, and Operations teams to minimize downtime, support line setup and changeovers, improve equipment reliability, and ensure manufacturing activities meet TGA, GMP, quality, and safety requirements.

The position supports all aspects of the production operation, including manufacturing equipment, compounding systems, packaging equipment, utilities, and facility infrastructure.

MAIN RESPONSIBLITIES

1. Production Equipment & Line Performance

  • Set up production equipment and production lines according to manufacturing requirements.

  • Support product changeovers, startup activities, and line adjustments.

  • Optimize line performance to achieve production targets and operational efficiency.

  • Provide technical support to production personnel.

  • Train operators in equipment operation and basic troubleshooting practices.

  • Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for productivity improvement.

2.Equipment Reliability & Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and automation-related faults.

  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.

  • Minimize equipment downtime through proactive maintenance and reliability improvements.

  • Recommend and implement engineering improvements to improve equipment performance and operational efficiency.

  • Escalate equipment issues that may impact product quality, safety, or production output.

3.Preventative & Corrective Maintenance

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on production equipment, compounding equipment, utilities, and facility systems.

  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and production issues.

  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures.

  • Support planned maintenance activities to maximize equipment availability.

4.Manufacturing, Packaging & Utility Equipment Support

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize equipment including:

  • Compounding and mixing tanks

  • Agitators and mixers

  • Product transfer pumps

  • Manufacturing and processing equipment

  • Associated piping and process systems

6.Packaging Equipment

  • Liquid filling machines

  • Cartoning machines

  • Labelling machines

  • Conveyors and automated packaging equipment

7.Continuous Improvement & Engineering Projects

  • Support equipment installations, upgrades, commissioning, and qualification activities.

  • Participate in equipment validation and change control activities.

  • Assist with investigations, deviations, CAPA actions, and continuous improvement projects.

  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and production performance.

  • Provide engineering support to Production, Quality, and Operations teams.

8.Compliance & Documentation

  • Complete maintenance records, logbooks, work orders, and CMMS entries accurately and on time.

  • Ensure activities comply with TGA requirements, GMP principles, WHS legislation, and company procedures.

  • Support the development and revision of maintenance procedures, schedules, SOPs, and technical documentation.

  • Assist with audit preparation and regulatory inspections.

9.Spare Parts & Contractor Coordination

  • Assist in maintaining critical spare parts inventory.

  • Coordinate and supervise external contractors and service providers when required.

  • Ensure contractor activities comply with site safety and GMP requirements.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

1.Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills across electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and automated systems.

  • Experience working with manufacturing, processing, or packaging equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and equipment manuals.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a cross-functional team environment.

2.Highly Desirable

  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting:

    • Liquid filling machines

    • Cartoning machines

    • Labelling systems

    • Compounding tanks and mixers

    • Pumps and process equipment

  • Experience with utilities including HVAC systems, compressed air systems, and purified water systems.

  • Experience setting up production lines and supporting product changeovers.

  • Experience with PLC-controlled equipment, sensors, drives, motors, and industrial automation systems.

  • Experience within pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, cosmetic, medical device, or other TGA/GMP-regulated manufacturing environments.

3.Advantageous

  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

  • Knowledge of GMP documentation, validation, and change control processes.
