We bring together a powerful in-house team of data scientists, software engineers and digital research analysts to deliver the training, expert advice, high-performance computing and cloud infrastructure that enables researchers to get from a complex question to a breakthrough conclusion.

The Role

We are seeking a proactive, energetic Digital Research Analyst (DRA) to join our team. Based on campus, you will be the face of Intersect at your assigned university, working alongside senior staff to connect researchers with our expertise, advice and technology. While embedded locally, you won't be working in isolation, you'll be regularly connected with your Intersect colleagues, including the DRA team, our Trainers, Data Scientists and Technical Services, so you can tap into a whole network of experts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide training, advice and assistance to researchers on the best tech solutions to enhance their research productivity.

  • Assist researchers to effectively and efficiently use relevant digital research products and services to maximise research speed and capabilities.

  • Gather and document research specific IT requirements from the research community.

  • Liaise with stakeholders, including researchers, project managers, support staff, administrative staff and management, in particular within the Research Portfolio, Information Services and Library divisions of the university.

  • Help guide the development and deployment of relevant digital research services and provide advice on matters related to digital research including best-practice, policy, etc.

  • Increase the visibility and acceptance of good digital research practice.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • A postgraduate degree with a component of research, such as a PhD, or a Masters by Research, or equivalent industry experience.

  • Exceptional communication, liaison, and relational skills, with a proven ability to understand and manage the needs of broad and complex stakeholder groups with diverse viewpoints.

  • Experience with interpreting complex user requirements for information technology solutions, preferably within an academic research environment.

  • Self-motivated, energetic, and innovative with a high degree of professional initiative, patience, and respect, and the ability to work interdependently, given broad direction.

Desirable

  • Strong skills in developing and delivering teaching, training, or education programs to academic researchers.

  • Some experience with scripting languages such as R, Python, or others.

  • Some experience in command line computing (e.g. Bash, Linux, Unix).

  • Knowledge of cloud computing and data storage systems for research.

  • Knowledge of High-Performance Computing systems.

  • A solid grasp of the Australian academic research landscape.
