About the role
To lead the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a Major Hazard Facility (MHF) supplying bulk industrial gases. The site includes an air separation plant and an LNG plant, servicing both pipeline and merchant liquid customers across the region. This leadership role is responsible for directing, planning, and overseeing all daily operational activities, ensuring compliance, continuity, and customer satisfaction. The Operations Manager will report to the Operations Business Manager, VIC/TAS/SA, and will play a critical role in managing emergency situations, maintaining strong customer relationships, and driving operational excellence
What you will enjoy doing
Ensure the safe, compliant, and profitable operation of the VIC MHF facility within the SA/VIC/TAS zone.
Lead day‑to‑day plant operations, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and adherence to all regulatory and internal standards.
Respond rapidly and effectively to plant issues, coordinating resources to minimise business and customer impact.
Maintain strong, productive relationships with pipeline and merchant liquid customers.
Understand and fulfil all contractual obligations.
Collaborate closely with logistics teams to ensure reliable and efficient product deliveries.
Build and sustain relationships with suppliers and internal support teams.
Manage plant fixed and variable costs to meet financial targets.
Deliver defined annual productivity improvements and operational efficiencies.
Influence P&L outcomes through sound operational decision‑making.
Develop long‑term workforce plans, including recruitment, retention, training, and professional development.
Foster a strong, diverse, and high‑performing team culture.
Promote open communication, collaboration, and team engagement across the organisation.
Develop and execute short‑ and long‑term maintenance strategies to ensure reliable, cost‑effective operations.
Manage the site’s portfolio of capital and expense projects.
Engage technical and engineering support teams to deliver projects and resolve complex issues.
What makes you great
Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience in a comparable production or industrial environment.
10+ years of operations experience, including 5+ years in management roles within process plant operations.
Strong financial acumen with demonstrated ability to manage budgets and influence P&L performance.
Proven leadership capability with a track record of building, developing, and motivating diverse teams.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, make informed decisions, and act with urgency in dynamic environments.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships across departments and organisational levels.
Self‑starter with strong execution skills and the ability to drive both strategic initiatives and day‑to‑day operational outcomes.
