About Us

Melbourne Testing Services Pty Ltd (MTS) is an established, NATA-accredited laboratory specialising in testing of construction materials, mechanical components, structural members, automotive & aerospace components and fasteners, to name a few.

Although the tests we do are varied, they mostly involve applying forces for the purpose of proof and destructive loading.  Our clients are Government and industry-based manufacturers and suppliers who require research and development, calibration and verification of compliance with Australian and International Standards.  Our expert testing and calibration services are provided with a strong reputation for precision, regulatory compliance, and workplace safety. Our team is committed to delivering accurate, reliable results and outstanding customer service.

As our business continues to grow, we are seeking a motivated and hands-on trade qualified laboratory technician to join our experienced team.

The Opportunity

The position would suit a tradesperson with a qualification in fitting and machining.  The applicant would have a skill set enabling them to safely cut, machine, manufacture, and fabricate test items and components using general workshop equipment including lathes, drilling, milling, saw-cutting machines, and handheld tools.  They should have an understanding of mechanics, machinery, and systems and be capable of performing general fitting maintenance activities.  An ability to conduct general welding tasks would be advantageous.

The role is a hands-on position in which the applicant would be required to undertake workshop activities as discussed above.  Other duties include setting up test systems and conducting the tests within the testing laboratories.  While experience in testing is not mandatory, the role of a fitter / laboratory testing technician requires the candidate to participate in daily laboratory operations, including sample preparation, testing, data analysis, equipment calibration, and reporting.  In this role, you will be trained by experienced personnel and are required to collaborate closely with test engineers and technical staff to deliver high-quality outcomes for clients while supporting continuous improvement and adopting and maintaining a high standard of safety and compliance with Australian Standards.
