Principal Lawyer & Manager | Employment & Workplace LawFlexible work & salary packaging | Inner CBD locationDrive strategic legal outcomes in a values-led organisation **Exclusively Listed with Legal People** About the roleLead an in-house legal team as the Principal Lawyer and Manager, Workplace and Employment Law (8-12 years PAE), providing expert, strategic advice on complex workplace, employment, and industrial relations matters. You will oversee high-risk claims and disputes, guide the team to deliver consistent, legally sound advice, and support proactive responses to legislative and regulatory change. DutiesIn this role you will:Lead the provision of expert legal advice on litigation, inquiries, investigations, inquests, claims, subpoenas and disputes relating to employment, workplace and industrial relations matters.Guide the legal team in delivering high-quality, consistent advice aligned with organisational strategy, legal obligations and values.Oversee complex employment and industrial relations disputes, ensuring strategic legal responses, regulatory compliance and consistent approaches across matters.Build organisational capability by designing and delivering education programs that strengthen decision-makers’ understanding of legal responsibilities.Manage team workflow, resources and matter management systems to ensure efficient service delivery, accurate documentation and effective reporting.Engage senior stakeholders and external authorities, representing the legal team in high-level discussions while mentoring and developing team capability. Skills & experienceYou are an admitted lawyer with 8-12+years PAE Workplace and Employment law experience, with extensive experience in leading legal teams and providing strategic legal advice. You bring:Advanced legal expertise and strategic insight, with a proven ability to lead complex workplace and employment law matters in corporate or government environments.Influence and stakeholder management, including leading complex negotiations, shaping partnerships, and presenting complex legal and strategic advice to diverse audiences.High-level analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to anticipate challenges and innovate solutions.Effective communication and persuasion, ensuring legal advice is objective, independent, and clearly informs decision-making.Team and resource management, including mentoring staff, managing budgets, and driving performance aligned with organisational goals.Commitment to child safety and the values of Integrity, Respect, and Excellence About our clientOur client owns and operates approximately 300 schools in and around Melbourne.
