Position Summary

The Metal Fabricator is responsible for manufacturing, assembling, welding, and finishing sheet metal products to precise specifications for roofing, cladding, rainwater, and architectural applications. This role requires strong blueprint interpretation, fabrication accuracy, welding expertise, and commitment to quality and workplace safety.

Task & responsibilities

Key Duties & Responsibilities 

• Interpret workshop drawings, client specifications, roofing plans, and production schedules to determine fabrication requirements for custom sheet metal products including flashings, rainwater goods, cladding components, roofing accessories, downpipes, and architectural metal solutions. 
• Select, inspect, clean, and prepare sheet metal materials such as Colourbond, zincalume, aluminium, and galvanised steel for fabrication in line with Encore Sheetmetal’s manufacturing standards. 
• Measure, mark out, cut, and prepare sheet metal sections using guillotines, shears, laser or mechanical cutting equipment, hand tools, and specialised sheet metal machinery for precise production outcomes. 
• Operate folding, bending, rolling, and pressing equipment to manufacture custom flashings, capping, gutters, rain heads, box gutters, and bespoke sheet metal products according to client and project requirements. 
• Shape and form sheet metal sections using brakes, rollers, presses, and hand tools to produce high-quality roofing, cladding, and rainwater products with exact dimensional accuracy. 
• Assemble and align fabricated components using measuring devices, templates, and hand tools to ensure precision fit, structural integrity, and compliance with project specifications. 
• Join metal sections and fabricated parts through welding, riveting, fastening, and sealing techniques where required for custom architectural and industrial sheet metal applications. 
• Inspect fabricated products, folds, joints, and welds for dimensional accuracy, finish quality, weatherproofing capability, and compliance with Encore’s premium workmanship standards. 
• Finish completed products through grinding, polishing, filing, smoothing, and surface preparation to ensure professional presentation and readiness for installation or dispatch. 
• Maintain quality assurance throughout all stages of fabrication to support Encore Sheetmetal’s reputation for precision manufacturing and next-day turnaround capabilities. 
• Safely operate and maintain fabrication tools, workshop machinery, and equipment while adhering to occupational health and safety requirements. 
• Collaborate closely with workshop, scheduling, and dispatch teams to ensure timely completion of customer orders across roofing, cladding, and rainwater projects throughout Victoria.

Qualification & experience

Skills & Experience Required

• Relevant trade qualification in Metal Fabrication, Engineering Fabrication, or equivalent. 
• Experience of one year in sheet metal fabrication, roofing products, flashing, cladding, or custom metalwork preferred. 
• Proficiency in reading technical drawings and workshop plans. 
• Skilled in welding, cutting, bending, and fabrication machinery operation. 
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. 
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment. 
• Knowledge of workplace safety regulations and fabrication standards.
