A Melbourne-based trailer manufacturing and metal fabrication business is seeking an experienced and reliable Welder to support increasing operational demands associated with the fabrication, assembly, repair, and modification of trailers and related metal components.

The business operates within a growing production environment involving trailer manufacturing, metal fabrication, structural assembly, repair works, and workshopbased production activities. Due to increased workflow, expanding operational requirements, and ongoing project commitments, the business requires an additional skilled welder to support workshop production and fabrication activities on a full-time basis.

The Welder will be responsible for performing welding, fabrication, repair, assembly, and metalwork activities associated with trailer manufacturing and workshop operations.

This is a practical, hands-on workshop role involving day-to-day fabrication and welding activities across trailer production, structural steel components, metal assemblies, repair work, and related fabrication tasks. The successful applicant will work closely with workshop supervisors, fabrication personnel, and production teams to support efficient manufacturing operations and maintain production quality standards.

Task & responsibilities

- Perform welding and fabrication activities associated with trailer manufacturing and metal component assembly

- Read and interpret workshop drawings, fabrication sketches, and production specifications

- Carry out MIG, TIG, ARC, and general fabrication welding activities as required

- Fabricate, assemble, repair, and modify trailer frames, structural components, and related metal products - Operate welding equipment, grinders, cutting tools, and fabrication machinery safely and effectively

- Conduct welding preparation activities including cutting, measuring, alignment, fitting, and metal preparation

- Inspect completed welding and fabrication work to ensure quality, structural integrity, and production standards are maintained

- Support workshop production schedules and assist with workflow coordination across manufacturing activities

- Assist with repair and maintenance welding tasks associated with workshop operations and fabricated components

- Maintain safe work practices and comply with workplace health and safety procedures within workshop environments

- Work collaboratively with fabrication teams, workshop personnel, and supervisors to support ongoing production activities

- Assist with general workshop fabrication and metalwork duties as required


Qualification & experience

Applicants must demonstrate:

- Relevant experience as a Welder, Fabricator, Metal Worker, or within welding and metal fabrication environments

- General fabrication and welding activities

- Experience working with structural steel, metal components, trailers, fabricated products, or workshop-based manufacturing activities

- Ability to read technical drawings, fabrication sketches, measurements, and workshop instructions

- Strong attention to detail, workmanship quality, and safe operating practices

- Ability to work effectively within fast-paced workshop and production environments

- Strong practical problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or within a team environment

- Reliable work ethic, good communication skills, and commitment to workplace safety and quality standards

The following will be highly regarded:

- Experience within trailer manufacturing, fabrication workshops, repair welding, or metal production environments - Experience operating fabrication machinery, grinders, cutting equipment, or workshop tools

- Experience working within multicultural workshop and production environments will be highly regarded.

- Experience working within production-focused manufacturing operations

Qualifications

- Trade qualification or relevant industry experience in welding, fabrication, metalwork, or related workshop environments

- Extensive practical welding and fabrication experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications
