The Carpenter is responsible for carrying out a wide range of carpentry and construction activities to support the successful completion of residential and commercial building projects. The role involves interpreting plans and specifications, constructing and installing timber structures, fitting building components, and performing repair and maintenance work while ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing materials, measuring and marking construction layouts, assembling structural frameworks, installing doors and windows, repairing timber structures, and undertaking general carpentry duties as required. The Carpenter will work closely with supervisors and other trades to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard of workmanship.

This position requires a relevant qualification, 1–3 years of industry experience, strong technical carpentry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Task & responsibilities

  • Interpret construction plans, specifications, and technical drawings to determine project requirements, measurements, materials, and installation methods.
  • Measure, mark out, assemble, and install timber frameworks for walls, ceilings, roof structures, eaves, and other building components.
  • Construct and fit a range of structural and non-structural elements, including flooring systems, partitions, panelling, staircases, and external timber structures.
  • Install windows, doors, frames, and associated hardware such as locks, handles, hinges, and other fittings.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and renovation work on existing timber structures by replacing damaged or deteriorated components.
  • Assemble and install temporary and permanent formwork used in concrete construction where required.
  • Ensure all carpentry work is completed in accordance with building codes, safety standards, and project specifications.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and carpentry equipment safely and effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with site supervisors, tradespeople, and subcontractors to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised work environment at all times.
  • Construct, erect, install, renovate, and repair structures and fixtures using timber, plywood, lightweight steel framing, plasterboard, and other construction materials.

Qualification & experience

  • A relevant trade qualification in Carpentry, Building and Construction, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant carpentry experience in the construction industry.
  • Sound knowledge of construction methods, building materials, and carpentry techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently.
  • Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
