A leading provider of hot-dip galvanizing services  is seeking an experienced and motivated Metal Machinist (Galvanizer) to join its team on a full time basis

Position Overview:

The Metal Machinist (Galvanizer) is responsible for the machining, fitting, assembly, installation, maintenance, overhaul, and repair of metal components, mechanical equipment, and production machinery used within galvanizing operations. The role requires advanced machining skills, interpretation of engineering drawings, precision measurement, fault diagnosis, and maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems to ensure safe and efficient plant operation.

Task & responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions to determine machining and fabrication requirements.
  • Set up and operate machine tools and workshop equipment to cut, drill, bore, grind, shape, and finish metal components to precise tolerances.
  • Manufacture, modify, fit, and assemble metal components and mechanical assemblies used in galvanizing plant operations.
  • Inspect finished work using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, vernier calipers, gauges, and dial indicators.
  • Perform machining, fitting, alignment, and adjustment of machinery and equipment.
  • Install, maintain, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems and associated components.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs, and equipment overhauls.
  • Assist with the installation, commissioning, and improvement of machinery and production equipment.
  • Inspect machinery and fabricated components to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and quality standards.
  • Assess fabricated steel for venting, drainage, and preparation requirements prior to hot-dip galvanizing.
  • Operate overhead cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other material handling equipment where licensed and authorised.
  • Maintain maintenance records and support continuous improvement initiatives across safety, quality, and operational performance.

Qualification & experience

  • Relevant trade qualification in Metal Machining, Fitting and Machining, Mechanical Engineering Trade, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in machining, fitting, assembly, maintenance, and repair of industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Experience using machine tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting, and mechanical repair skills.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Forklift and/or overhead crane licences are desirable.
