The Carpenter is responsible for carrying out a broad range of carpentry and construction duties, including interpreting plans and specifications, preparing and installing building frameworks, fitting structural components, and repairing or renovating existing structures. The role requires strong technical carpentry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently while complying with workplace safety standards and project requirements.

Task & responsibilities

  • Construct, install, renovate, and repair timber, plywood, lightweight steel, plasterboard, and other building structures and fixtures.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and project plans to determine measurements, materials, and installation methods.
  • Select, order, and prepare construction materials, timber, and related products required for projects.
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and secure building materials using appropriate carpentry techniques and tools.
  • Build and erect wall frameworks, roof framing, panel systems, flooring structures, and sub-floor components while ensuring structural accuracy.
  • Install fascia panels, roof sheeting, external cladding, door frames, and window frames in accordance with project specifications.
  • Assemble prefabricated timber and structural components for installation on-site.
  • Prepare and cut wood joints and connections to support structural integrity and quality workmanship.
  • Construct and install formwork and temporary structures for concrete works where required.
  • Carry out repair, maintenance, and renovation work on existing structures and fittings.
  • Work with a variety of materials including timber, laminates, perspex, metals, and other construction products where required.
  • Operate and maintain carpentry tools, machinery, and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ensure all carpentry work complies with building regulations, workplace safety standards, and company procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised worksite environment at all times.

Qualification & experience

  • A relevant qualification in Carpentry, Building and Construction, or a related trade field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant carpentry experience within the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, building materials, and carpentry techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently.
  • Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
