As a Motor Mechanic, you will be responsible for carrying out vehicle diagnostics, servicing, maintenance, and repairs to ensure vehicles are operating safely and efficiently. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced workshop environment while maintaining high standards of workmanship and customer service.

Task & responsibilities

  • Service, inspect, maintain, and repair petrol engines and related mechanical systems, including steering, suspension, braking systems, and transmissions.
  • Diagnose mechanical and engine faults using testing procedures, workshop equipment, and computer-assisted diagnostic technology.
  • Remove and dismantle engine assemblies, gearboxes, steering systems, and other vehicle components to assess repair requirements.
  • Repair or replace worn, damaged, or faulty mechanical parts and reassemble components according to manufacturer guidelines and service manuals.
  • Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups, and filter replacements to improve vehicle performance and maintain compliance with emission standards.
  • Reassemble engines and mechanical systems after repairs and ensure all components are fitted correctly and safely.
  • Conduct testing, adjustments, and performance checks following repairs to confirm proper vehicle operation.
  • Use electronic diagnostic equipment and computer-based systems to identify and evaluate faults accurately.
  • Assist with vehicle inspections and provide recommendations regarding roadworthiness and required repairs where applicable.
  • Maintain accurate service records and ensure workshop cleanliness and safety standards are consistently upheld.

Qualification & experience

  • Relevant qualifications in Automotive Mechanical Technology or a related trade field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience as a Motor Mechanic.
  • Strong mechanical diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Sound understanding of automotive servicing and repair procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Relevant registration or licensing where required.
