The Diesel Motor Mechanic will be responsible for carrying out inspections, servicing, maintenance, and repairs on heavy vehicles to ensure optimal performance, safety, and compliance with industry standards. Task & responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair faults in diesel engines and mechanical systems, including steering, suspension, transmission, and braking components.
- Dismantle, inspect, and reassemble engines, gearboxes, differentials, and other heavy vehicle mechanical assemblies.
- Repair or replace damaged and worn mechanical parts using workshop tools and manufacturer service manuals.
- Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and engine tune-ups to maximise vehicle performance and meet emissions requirements.
- Conduct testing and adjustments following repairs to ensure vehicles and mechanical systems are operating correctly.
- Utilise computer-based diagnostic equipment and specialised tools to identify and assess mechanical faults and system performance.
- Inspect vehicles and, where authorised, provide recommendations or certification relating to roadworthiness requirements.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records while ensuring workshop cleanliness and adherence to workplace safety standards.
Qualification & experience
- Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- 1–3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines and mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Excellent diagnostic and fault-finding abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
