Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Welder (First Class) to join our fabrication team. In this role, you will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, repairing and finishing metal trailer components and structures, in line with the duties outlined under the ANZSCO occupation code 322313 Welder (First Class). Your work will involve reading drawings and specifications, preparing materials, welding to standards, and ensuring high-quality finished product.
Key Responsibilities
- In accordance with the ANZSCO tasks for 322313, you will:
- Study blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine job requirements and welding processes.
- Select, clean and prepare metal stock and components for welding.
- Cut marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machines.
- Shape and bend metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, and by heating or hammering as required.
- Align parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments; join metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting and riveting.
- Examine welds for correct width of bead, penetration, precision and finish; clean and smooth welds by filing, chiselling and grinding; finish products by polishing and cleaning.
- Follow safety procedures, use personal protective equipment (PPE), and work in compliance with workplace health and safety standards and quality control protocols.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, fabricators and other trades to meet production schedules and deliver high-quality custom trailer assemblies.
Requirements
- To be successful in this role you must have:
- Minimum 1 year full-time welding experience, preferably in a fabrication/manufacturing environment.
- Trade qualification or Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (or equivalent) would be highly desirable; however substantial demonstration of skills and experience will also be accepted.
- Proven experience with mainstream welding techniques (MIG, TIG, arc, flux-core) and metal fabrication.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail, precision in welding execution and finish.
- Commitment to workplace safety, able to work under own initiative and as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and flexibility within standard workshop hours (Mon–Fri 7:00 am-5:30 pm) with possibility of overtime as required.
- Current right to work in Australia.
